hi, i’m Ava!

I am a self-taught photographer born and raised in south Louisiana now based in Jacksonville, Florida.

My style is inspired by the misfortune I had with working with my very old, very broken, and first camera I ever used. Any photo I took, despite correcting the ISO, flash, and shutter speed, always came out dark and severely underexposed. My high school graduation and especially prom photos were humorously dark, but I hold them dearly for how mysterious and slightly off-putting they are. A lot of the beautiful photographs I’ve taken with it were by accident, only being able to have the attention on the sunsets. Going forward, I’ve learned to embrace what has continuously fueled my spirit - the sun - and make a painting-like portrait with it.

On the other hand, my motivation has a lot to do with the music I listen to. Mostly surf, psychedelic, and indie rock with a little post-punk that feels restless and distorted. Over the last year or so, it has been heavily influencing the way I plan and edit my freelance shoots.
